Welcome to the second hour of This Morning. Here are today’s headlines.
The presidential office plans to conduct a survey on whether multiple home-owners among 청와대 staff have sold their properties, and announce the findings within a month. The top office said earlier that a total of 12 officials own multiple properties. So far, presidential Chief of Staff 노영민 has announced he’s selling two apartments in Seoul’s 반포 area and North 충청 province’s 청주, and secretary for land and transport affairs 윤성원 is disposing two apartments in Seoul’s 논현 area and 세종 city.
청와대 officials and the leadership of the main rival parties, including Democratic Party Chief 이해찬, and United Future Party Acting Chairman 김종인, offered their condolences over the weekend to South Korea’s first four-star general 백선엽 who died on Friday at the age of 99. 백 is a Korean War hero but was also regarded as a pro-Japanese figure for leading a military unit that suppressed the Korean Independence Army before the war broke out, stirring a controversy about whether it’s appropriate for him to be laid at a national cemetery. He will be buried at the 대전 National Cemetery on Wednesday.
South Korea and China are expanding air routes from the current 10 flights a week to 20 based on consultations between the two sides. The government said the move comes to help Korean firms doing business with China and Korean residents and students who stayed in China before the coronavirus outbreak. Flights operated by local airliners will increase from the current 3 to 10 with the decision.
Citizens can now buy an unlimited number of face masks at market prices as the government’s public mask ration system ended yesterday. The system was introduced in March to stabilize mask prices and meet high demand, and citizens could only buy a limited number of masks at a fixed price. Prime Minister 정세균 said the government will carry out daily inspections on the production, distribution and prices of masks to prevent any illicit transactions.
