Description:
Bee Keeping has been around for thousands of years. Apiculturists, the technical term for a beekeeper, hone their craft to produce the most delicious honey. What people may or may not know is that beekeeping is an important part of our environment. Healthy hives produce healthy bees. These bees work to pollinate fruits, vegetables, flowers, and your every day flowering shrubs. In addition to the pollination and honey production, we also derive beeswax which is great for natural candles. It is said that those with seasonal allergies, benefit from eating local honey as it helps build up their immune system. Many communities are working toward local hives to keep their environment healthy and thriving. Our community has a local Apiculturist who is working to produce honey that can be donated to local charities. My family has kept bees over the years since I was a child, it is a great teachable moment for children to understand why we need to embrace the bee!
