Relaxing walking tour of Torres Vedras, Portugal, with detailed historical information and context! Torres Vedras, located 50 km (31 miles) northwest of Lisbon, is a city with great quality of life that is not on most tourists' itineraries, so you might call it a hidden gem.

Famous for its role in the Peninsular Wars in the early 19th century, and its defensive system (the Lines of Torres Vedras), the region was the scene of the beginning of the retreat of the French army and Napoleon's loss of hegemony in Europe.
