Acre (Hebrew: עַכּוֹ Arabic: عكّا, ʻAkkā), is a coastal city in Israel. The Greeks gave the city its name. Akra in Greek means 'at the edge'. The city is built on a strategic local and is considered an important port for the Levantine trade during the ages, although Acre lost its competitiveness to the port of Haifa. Currently the population is 50,000.
