Some thoughts on this amazing, not-Roman find in Rutland. It has been brought to my attention that Twitter says Hector's dead body is being weighed against the gold comprising his ransom, but this is not the case. The amount of gold in a ransom otherwise mainly composed of clothing was tiny: Murray has ten talents (Fitzgerald has ten bars), and an Homeric talent was only 8 1/2 grams. So 85 grams is only 2.73 Troy ounces, or a whisker under 3 kitchen ounces. So the Egyptian theme is still on, so to speak! Perhaps it's an orb.
