May 11, 1992 - In the final Suns game ever to be held at the cacophonous Arizona Veterans Memorial Coliseum, Dan Majerle and company did their part to end things in style. Majerle finished with 21 points and 11 rebounds in 50 minutes of work during Game 4 of their Western Conference semi-final series, pushing the Portland Trail Blazers to the brink before ultimately falling 153-151 in double overtime. Though it served as little consolation, the contest became the highest scoring game in NBA playoff history.
The Arizona Veterans Memorial Coliseum, opened in 1965, featured a saddle-like roof (eventually imitated in Washington D.C. and Calgary) that served to trap and reverberate the noise of its 15,000 revelers. The result was a raucous atmosphere that registered well over 100 decibels and forced Trail Blazers guard Danny Ainge to literally plug his ears midway through the second half. Ainge would sign with the Suns that very offseason, joining fellow newcomer Charles Barkley for the team's first season at the brand new America West Arena (known as Footprint Center as of 2022).
