Captain Anthony and Deckhand Ryan of TowBoatUS Santa Cruz shoot a pneumatic line launcher off a TowBoatUS towboat. TowBoatUS Santa Cruz is using a new piece of equipment to make things safer for our crew when we need to deliver a tow line to a stranded boat on a beach or other inaccessible area. Today our crew held refresher training that included practice with our pneumatic line launcher. This specialized equipment allows us to send a messenger line up to 800 feet. We have the ability to put a tow line on beached vessels in almost any weather while minimizing risk to our boat crew and eliminate exposing a swimmer to dangerous rip currents and shore break while dragging a heavy tow line. Safety is our number one priority. Training and good equipment are the foundation of our safe operation.
