Catholics, Can You Explain This? - I am well aware of the Catholic teachings after going to Catholic, private schooling my whole life. The Vatican has its own doctrine. But Jesus says in the Gospels, "I come with the doctrine of the Father." Does the Vatican promote the doctrine of the Father? What did Peter promote? The Catholic and Orthodox religions promote things contrary to what Jesus promoted. Peter did not even promote these teachings.
So why do the Catholics say Peter is the first pope? Pope is not even a term in the Bible, nor is the position of Cardinal. These are man made positions. When examining the writings of Peter, we see that he was nothing like what a Catholic and Orthodox believer are today. He was quite the opposite.
So if Peter is the supposed rock and founder of the Catholic church yet we see how Peter had his faith through the New Testament, Catholics should correct their ways as Peter instructs. This is because Peter was clearly not a Catholic. Peter was a Christian. Christian means one who follows Christ. Peter taught to follow Jesus, not himself. Peter did not give himself the title of the rock, but instead he gave all glory to Jesus only. This is the true faith. Only Jesus is worthy of receiving all the glory, no man, no saint, no religion, no apostle.
