No matter what anyone tells you, going through the SEME border is the safest and best way to get into the Benin Republic. The other land border around Agbara and boat routes are well-known means for smugglers with very little security on their way.
So from time to time shoot outs may happen.
I wouldn't advise anyone to take these routes no matter how cheap they promise to be, they are extremely risky.
Going into Benin you only need your passport and Yellow fever card, you can apply for your yellow card online and pay the N2000 fee.
After that, you can take your receipt to the registered clinics to take the vaccine and get your card.

It's also important to note they're very strict on recording at the border so do not bring out your phone to record or take pictures unless it's certain that you're in a picture-free zone.
