I love the Area 58 pickups from Dimarzio. They've been great in my strat, but lately I've been wanting a different sound in the bridge position. I can't think of anyone who gets a better sound out of a strat's bridge than Eric Johnson, so that's probably a good place to start. I've been curious about the HS-2, also from Dimarzio, for a while now. I pulled the trigger on it and I didn't see much on YouTube in the way of a comparison. So I figured I'd take the time to make one.
To wire the top coil, simply use the red and black wires. I did not attach the white and green leads, I left them insulated with electrical tape.
Unfortunately the input on my interface was clipping horribly while recording this and I couldn't see the input meter where I was sitting. The audio clips are from the camera mic which isn't ideal. It's a bummer, but I'm not willing to put the old pickup back in the guitar.
Signal path is Gtr, compressor, Barber LTD SR, Helix HX for delay & reverb in the loop of my Naylor Dual 60. The dirty sounds are just the Naylor w/ the same reverb delay.
