WSJ reports that Liu Jianchao is to be named Chinese Foreign Minister in March; an unconventional candidate; former translator turned diplomat, currently leading a Party agency responsible for relationships with other Communist states; limited experience in the U.S., and role in party's anticorruption watchdog distinguishes him a rarity within the foreign-policy establishment.
• CTA Commemorated 75th Indian Republic Day. The Central Tibetan Administration celebrated India's 75th Republic Day, Officiating Sikyong Tharlam Dolma who addressed the media; "India is a living example of how a democratic system is thriving smoothly, and that is a lesson to the rest of the world”. • Jonang Monlam Commences at Bodh Gaya. The 17th Jonang Monlam commenced at Bodh Gaya led by Jonang Gyaltsap Rinpoche for or the well-being of all sentient beings, dedicated to the longevity of the Dalai Lama and Lamas across various Buddhist traditions, and to pay homage to the courageous individuals who sacrificed their lives for the Tibetan cause.
