Security clearance processing times have already been trending up - with a slight uptick in how long it takes to conduct the background investigations for both Secret and Top Secret security clearance determinations. Unfortunately, new scrutiny into the background investigation process caused by the alleged leak of classified information by Airman Teixeira with the Massachusetts Air National Guard could cause further delays. The backlash following a breach puts more pressure on the process and the reverb of future decisions around background investigations could make it even worse.
