Here we demonstrate a reflex test on the Achilles Tendon, comparing the left and right leg on a client.
If you look closely, when testing the left leg (first leg being tested) - there is no reflex. We term this an 'absent' or 'negative' reflex test.
The right leg, on the bottom, shows a normal reflex test.
WHAT CAUSES AN ABSENT REFLEX?
A common cause of an absent reflex test is neurological (nerve) compromise, a common example being a L5/S1 Radiculopathy caused by a severe Disc bulge/protrusion.
Physiotherapy is commonly the first line of treatment to help resolve issues relating to disc protrusions.
