Hitler spent the final months of the Second World War in Berlin. The city that he had once envisioned as Germania, onto which he would reflect his grand plans, now was in ruins.
Whilst much of this city still smouldered, the medieval and Wilhelminian architecture brought to rag and ruin, the buildings of the Third Reich, constructed of reinforced concrete still often stood. Amongst these was Hitler's own Reich Chancellery, opened only a few years prior, bomb damage had torn holes in the roof and floor, windows had been shattered, yet it still remained largely intact as a testament to the megalomania of the Führer.
In this video, the WAC (Women's Army Corps) of the US Army, visit the remains of the Chancellery and its gardens. They walk the halls and visit Hitler's office as well as stroll in the garden. In the garden they stand over the grate under which the body of Hitler and his wife, Eva Braun, were burned as the Reich came tumbling down.
