It is always the most difficult time of year for the health service. Today we found out how much strain this winter is putting on the NHS. Researchers found that last month, a third of all hospitals in England needed urgent action to cope with the number of patients, while seven said things got so bad they couldn't provide proper care. While at the same time A&Es were forced to shut their doors to patients a record number of times.
