How To Can Mandarins And Preserve Them For Later!
Mandarin Oranges or Mandarins, can be preserved by
Waterbath Canning or Pressure Canning on the stovetop,
in either Quart jars or Pint jars,
Hot packed or Raw packed,
with Citrus Juice, Plain Water or A Syrup,
Using Sugar or Honey
So there are many choices you can make to preserve your Mandarins in jars.
I am Pressure Canning Mandarins, in Pint Jars, Raw Packed, in a Light Syrup.
1/2 inch headspace is required for all options.
Processing information for all of your choices, from processing style, jar size and your altitude, in the location you are canning can be found at
NATIONAL CENTER FOR HOME FOOD PRESERVATION
www.nchfp.uga.edu
Click on 'Canning Fruits and Fruit Products
Click on "Grapefruit and Orange Sections"
Look at the Table for the canning choice you have decided to use
Table 1. Waterbath Canning
Table 2. Dial-Gauge Pressure Canner
Table3. Weighted- Gauge Pressure Canner
*If you are Waterbath Canning you are looking for your processing time, based on your altitude
*If you are Pressure Canning you are looking for your Processing Time based on your choices of Pack (Hot or Raw) and Jar Size AND Your PSI required for processing at your Altitude
Based on all of my choices
I'm pressure canning, using my Dial Gauge (Table 2.)
RAW Pack, Pint Jars = Processing Time 8 Minutes
My Altitude is in the 0 - 2,000 ft Range
So my Dial Gauge is at 6 for processing the Mandarins
Happy homesteading friends

Welcome to Moat Cottage Homesteading, I'm Elissa and here at Moat Cottage, we raise and grow and process some of our own free range meat, organic vegetables and fruit. We grow all of our herbs for both eating and medicinal purposes as well as hunt, fish and forage.
Our goal each season is to preserve our produce for the year ahead by canning, dehydrating, fermenting and freezing and we work on being prepared for emergency situations.
Avoiding single use plastic, chemicals and artificial fragrances is important to us and we are trying to live an older style life, balanced with this modern world.
