Shi'ite pilgrims faced rain in Baghdad on Tuesday, April 2, as they flocked to the capital's Kadhimiya neighborhood in huge numbers to mark the anniversary of the death of one of their most revered Imams.
Nearly hundreds of thousands visited the golden-domed shrine of Imam Moussa al-Kadhim who died in the 8th century.
A senior security official said thousands of security forces have been deployed along the route leading to the area, where nearly 900 people died in 2005 in a stampede that appeared to have been sparked by a rumor of a suicide bomber. (Reuters)
