This shred guitar lick in the style of Paul Gilbert will test your picking and stretching chops! Learn it step by step in this guitar lesson with guitar tabs included. This shredding guitar lick typical of a fast picking guitarist like Paul Gilbert and uses a repeating fast picking triplet idea coming from the E blues scale played up at the 12th fret on the guitar. If you're an alternate picker like Paul Gilbert, the alternate pick this phrase using down and up picking. This gives this rapid picking phrase it's attack and speed. For the next part of the lick we've extended our E blues scale to reach up to the 17th fret and add this higher note into the lick. We're using hammer on and pull off or legato technique to play this part of the lick. Take this lick and slow it down to get it accurate before you push it up to warp speed. Also, remember to experiment with the ideas here to make up some shred guitar licks of your own, this is how you'll build up your armoury of shredding guitar licks to use in your solos. Good luck and have fun!
