About the Speech:
Europol, as the EU law enforcement agency, assists Member States in combating drug trafficking, money laundering, organised fraud, trafficking in human beings and cyber crime -- issues which affect the security of millions of citizens across the EU. International cooperation on these cross-border threats is of increasing importance, particularly in combating international crime and terrorism.
Mr. Wainwright's address will be of particular interest in the context of upcoming reviews by Ireland and the UK of their existing opt-out arrangements in the area of freedom, security and justice. Mr. Wainwright will address the impact of these reviews on EU police cooperation and discuss Europol's responses to new transnational threats.
About the Speaker:
Rob Wainwright was appointed Director of Europol in April 2009. From 2006, he was Chief of the International Department of the UK Serious Organised Crime Agency (SOCA). He previously served as Director International of the National Criminal Intelligence Service (NCIS), and as Head of the UK Liaison Bureau at Europol. He has also managed the Europol National Unit in London.
