If you’re serious about betting you need to find the best odds, wherever they are.
Which means you need understand, and convert, odds you may not be used to in different markets to find the best value.
We have a calculator that converts any odds for you…But if you’re serious about betting you’ll need to know how to do it yourself too.
We’ll run through fractional, decimal and moneyline or US odds – and how you can change them to one easy to understand number – a probability. And from that see who is offering you the best odds.
Fractional odds are the most commonly used in the UK. The number on the left indicates what you’ll win by betting the number on the right.
To work out the probability add the two numbers together – in this case 5 and 2 – to make 7. Then divide the stake on the right into that number. And finally x100. Which, in this case gives a probability of 28.57%.
Decimal odds represent your return based on only betting one unit. For instance odds of 1.65 means you would receive 0.65 for every unit placed.
These are easy to translate into a probability – you divide 1 by your odds and x100, in this case 60.60%.
Finally the lesser-known moneyline, or US, odds, most often used by the North Americans.
These are represented as plus or minus, and use 100 as a base level.
For instance ‘minus 120’ means to win 100 units, you need to bet 120.
To convert minus moneylines into a probability, simply add 100 to the odds and
divide the original number into your new number. In this case 120 divided by 220. And finally multiply by 100.
For plus moneylines ‘plus 120’ means a bet of 100 wins you 120. To convert these into probabilities once again 100 to your odds, and this time divide 100 into it. Here 100 divided by 220, and finally, once again, x100.
Now you can look across all the markets, finding the best odds, whatever form they’re in!
