Olivier De Schutter, UN Special Rapporteur on the Right to Food, reflects on biodiversity for food and agriculture as a public good. He acknowledges that the Commission on Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture is a good example for how global public goods can be maintained and enhanced by governmental collaboration. He envisages that the Commission could serve as a model for future governance efforts at global level that try to build, protect and promote global public goods. As food security is considered a public good, he concludes that the Commission could be a model to be followed by the Committee on World Food Security.
