You will recognize the shining yellow beacon of a Waffle House sign if you’ve ever driven through the southern half of the United States, and if you’ve been lucky enough to eat in one, you’ll know that this cult classic is worth the hype. This diner has history and is full of nostalgia. Not to mention delicious hash browns, pancakes, eggs, and obviously, waffles.
Whether you’re a weary highway traveler or doing some food travel, Georgia is the place to be when it comes to Waffle House. While Waffle Houses now occupy half of the states in the US, the original was opened up in Georgia in 1955. Georgia now has the honor of housing more Waffle Houses than any other state, with a total of 433. The original site in Avondale Estates, Georgia, is now a Waffle House history museum, for you food history buffs out there. You can visit their website to reserve a tour, and while there you’ll see a collection of memorabilia and the layout of the very first restaurant!
