According to NAR, at least 87% of Realtors fail in the first 5 years of business 🤯 There are plenty of reasons why but here are a few of the most common:
Lack of proper training
Inability to procure their own leads
The need for multiple skillset in one
The process of getting licensed is basically learning how to pass the test, that’s it. All of a sudden you have this license that allows you to sell, but you have no idea what or how to do it. You need a mentor and A LOT of training.
Then there’s finding business. You’re brand new, no experience and have little to no capital yet. You need leads AND training on how to procure your own leads in order to grow a sustainable flow of income.
There is so much to know and be good at as a Realtor. One, you’ve got the paperwork. You are relied upon to know every detail of the contracts you are having your clients sign. Not only how to fill it out, but what it all means and how to explain. Two, you are a salesperson and negotiator. If you don’t have sales experience this can be a tough skill to develop on your own. Three, actually knowing houses. How a home is built, mechanical systems, home design etc. Four, knowing how to run a business. Whether you like it or not - as a Realtor you’re running a business. There’s marketing, accounting, admin work… the list goes on.
We’re just scraping the surface people! This is not meant to talk anyone out of a career in real estate but rather making sure you won’t be that 87%. Whether you’re a Realtor who feels like you’re failing or you’re just getting licensed and want to skip to the good part - align yourself with a brokerage that will provide this (and more) to you. It could be the difference between failure or more success than you’ve ever imagined!
