Mercosur (also known as the Southern Common Market) is a regional economic and political bloc in South America, created by the Treaty of Asuncion in 1991. Its full members are Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay, and Uruguay, while Bolivia is currently in the process of becoming a full member.
The European Union (EU) is a political and economic union of 27 member states located primarily in Europe. The EU was established with the signing of the Maastricht Treaty in 1992 and it has since grown in size and scope to become one of the world's most influential and powerful international organizations. As of February 2023, there are 27 member states of the European Union. The Portugal Golden Visa program grants residence permits to non-European Union citizens who make a qualifying investment in Portugal. The minimum investment required under this program is €350,000 in real estate or €280,000 in a renovation project. The permit is valid for one year and can be renewed for two-year periods, as long as the investment is maintained. After five years of legal residence in Portugal, investors may be eligible to apply for permanent residency and, after six years, for Portuguese citizenship. It's worth mentioning that there are other options for investment like a €350,000 transfer of capital to Portugal, a €350,000 purchase of shares in a Portuguese company, among others. Portugal just announced its intentions to terminate the golden visa program.
