You CAN boost the immune system - BUT! its not what you think…
So young children are going to typically get 10-12 viruses each year, thats 1 a month or more than that some months and less others. The months its more it will be a NEW sickness every 14 days! Just expect it, it is in fact normal!
I’ve noticed that my four-year-old gets sick a lot less than my two-year-old. But we shouldn’t expect a drastic decrease in those yearly viruses until they are around six-seven years old.-I know it sounds like forever. I’m in the trenches with you!
They are building their acquired immunity! We do this by exposure to viruses and bacteria- which is what happens when we get sick.
Heres what helps build our children’s immune systems:
1 - GOOD SLEEP! so so important for immune systems, development and recovery from sickness!
2 - good nutrition - lots of fruits and veggies! More vitamin C absorption than any supplement!
3 - regular physical activity
4 - sunlight - the best way for children to get vitamin D! Avoid high sunburn hours during the day! (or wear adequate sunscreen on those days)
5 - adequate hydration and fluids
Other methods such as supplements vitamin C, Zinc, echinacea have been studied and FAIL to show any effects. Worse- side effects have been notes with Zinc and echinacea including nausea and rashes
Probiotics are also not proven to help with immune function. I tend to only use them in my children have to take antibiotics for infections.
