This video covers the VTC gear's found in Honda's K-series engines. Specifically the K24a & K20a series engines.
Honda's service manuals note that the VTC gear should be unlocked before installing it; however, I was never able to find a reason as to why. This video provides a theory as to why the VTC gear should ALWAYS be unlocked when torquing the gear down onto the cam.
Be sure to always unlock your VTC gear following the steps outlined in the factory service manual. I only took the VTC gear apart to show how it worked and to show why I think it should be unlocked when torquing the gear down.
