At first glance, the vehicle you want to purchase inspires confidence, but is the engine really in good condition?
why does the engine of your car (truck, boat, motorcycle…) have a lack of power, burn too much oil, or produce unusual exhaust smoke?
In most cases, an OBD diagnosis is not sufficient to answer to these questions because it does not evaluate the mechanical condition of your engine.
The best solution is to evaluate the engine compression.
This solution is important for evaluating the mechanical condition of petrol and diesel engines, a lack of compression in at least one cylinder means complicated and very expensive repairs.
But evaluating the engine compression is complicated, you need to dismantle a lot of parts (intake manifold, spark plugs, glow plugs...), it takes time.
Thanks to Mecabud application, evaluating the engine compression has never been so easy !
The principle with Mecabud is based on tracking the waveform of the battery current during the cranking phase by using the magnetometers already present in your iPhone
So, no additional sensor is required, you don’t need to dismantle the spark plugs, or glow plugs.
Combining the analysis of the current variation, the engine data and the battery data Mecabud can compute the compression values of all cylinders.
In this way, an engine with poor compression in one or more cylinders can be quickly identified.
With Mecabud you can perform a relative compression test and an evaluation of the engine compression
- The relative compression test
Only the number of cylinders is required to perform the test.
The relative compression analysis does not measure the actual pressure but compares one cylinder to the next, hence the term "relative".
The compression magnitudes are expressed in terms of percentage, the highest magnitude is the reference and is labelled 100%.
If the difference between the max and the min compression values is smaller than 20%, the engine has passed the test.
- Evaluation of the engine compression
The procedure is the same as the procedure to do a relative compression test.
Engine data (bore, stroke, compression ratio, number of cylinders) and battery data are required in this case and Mecabud mobile application computes the pressure values in bar or Psi.
In addition to that, the “voice assisted” option” guides you throughout the process, you can perform the test on your own!
Mecabud is suitable for diesel or petrol engines from 3 to 6 cylinders.
