The plane crashed on a highway, in Petrozavodsk (the capital city of the Republic of Karelia)/ (in north-western Russia), near the airport from Petrozavodsk.
The plane belonged to RussAir company, on which were 52 people, including crew. After the crash 44 people have died and eight are seriously injured.
The plane, a Tu-134, attempted to land by around 01:00 on 21 June on a highway, one kilometer from Petrozavodsk airport.
After the impact, the plane broke it's fuselage and got in fire. The bodies were scattered on the highway, and also the plane did not hit residential buildings in the attempt to land.
The accident could have been caused by inclement weather. A dense fog covered the area when the TU-134 was landing. The eight survivors of the catastrophe were hospitalized, some of whom were in serious injured.
The plane, which was carrying 43 passengers and nine crew members was traveling on the route Moscow-Petrozavodsk. The two flight data recorders of the plane were found. According to Russian agencies, a Swedish citizen died in this accident.
Also one of the passengers was Vladimir Pettai, he was 38 years old, he was a referee since 1996 and was on the FIFA list in 2010. He also led the qualifying European League matches.
