"Effective exercise to strengthen the lower trapezius."
The upper trapezius originates from the occipital bone/spinous processes of C1-C3 and goes to the lateral clavicle (basically from the skull to the collar bone).
Overuse of upper traps in comparison to the middle/lower trap’s is a very common issue that will cause the scapula to ride high leading to shoulder pain which can result in potential labrum damage or rotator cuff tears. These symptoms can also be accompanied with neck pain as well as a referral pattern up to the head.
Overuse of upper trap’s is common not only in athletes that spend a lot of time in an overhead position but also seen in desk workers with their shoulder scrunched up with a forward head posture. This position also leads to a kyphotic (rounded back) position, which will put the middle and lower traps in a disadvantageous position to be activated. Stay tuned for proper sitting mechanics. #traps #strength #crossfit #power #movement #lowertraps #trapezius
