Music: "Amazing Grace" by The Eden Symphony Orchestra
I went on a day hike with my daughter Kristen in the Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield Park located in Cobb County, Georgia. There are several miles of trails in the park. We took a route that was near five miles for the hike in and out. Most people do not hike the section over to Little Kennesaw Mountain so we were able to enjoy a little more solitude along the trail. The history of the area is well documented and has been clearly preserved.
The Battle of Kennesaw Mountain was fought on June 27, 1864 during the Atlanta Campaign of the American Civil War. It was the most significant frontal assault launched by Union Maj. Gen. William T. Sherman against the Confederate Army of Tennessee under Gen. Joseph E. Johnston. The battle ended in a tactical defeat for the Union forces but strategically the battle failed to deliver the result the Confederacy needed. It did not halt the advance of Sherman toward the city of Atlanta, Georgia. Over 98,500 Union and 50,000 Confederate soldiers were part of this bloody battle. There were 3000 Union and 1000 Confederate men that died in the Battle of Kennesaw Mountain.
My video only gives an overview of the hike with minimal historical information. If you are interested in history, it is definitely worth doing a little research on this battle and visiting Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield Park.
