Hey guys this is a quick heads up to not forage this plant. It's known as White Snakeroot and is responsible for Milk Sickness. It looks similar to Boneset and we will do a comparison between these two plants. Many people confuse the two later in the year because the flower structures look similar. That is where the similarity ends though. White Snakeroot has lance shaped leaves with teeth running along its margins and the leaves come from petioles whereas Boneset leaves are perfoliate, meaning the stem goes through the leaves. The leaves of Boneset are very long and lance shaped and the teeth along the margins aren't near as distinct. The stem of White Snakeroot has little hairs running its length and is slightly hairy. Boneset on the other hand is very hairy on its stem. This plant contains Tremetol which is responsible for Milk Sickness in grazing livestock. This can be passed on to humans who drink the milk, but it can also be dangerous if consumed.
