Two beloved Retrofret friends @AdamLevyGuitarTips and @richhinmanmusic on two weird birds in the shop: a bonafide 1968 Fender Paisley Telecaster in all its swirling pink glory, and one of our few choice contemporary pieces: a 2020 Gretsch White Penguin.

This infamous and fabulous Tele was one of CBS/Fender's most whimsical ideas in the summer of 1968: putting pink paisley or blue floral wallpaper on Telecasters to catch the "Groovy" 1960's vibe at its late-decade high. The slab-bodied Tele shape worked well (the contoured Strat proved impractical!) and the instruments were released to the world in mid-1968. This Penguin glides, not waddles with a pair of TV Jones Filter'Tron pickups, on a chambered mahogany body with a maple top.
