Pramipexole is also known as the brand name: Mirapex and Mirapex ER
Pramipexole comes in 0.125, 0.25, 0.5, 0.75, 1, and 1.5 mg tablets, as well as 0.375, 0.75, 1.5, 2.25, 3, 3.75, and 4.5 mg extended release tablets
Pramipexole is most commonly used for Parkinson’s disease and restless leg syndrome. Pramipexole may also be used for bipolar disorder. No matter what your doctor has you taking it for, pramipexole is usually taken by mouth once daily. Pramipexole can be taken on an empty stomach or with food. Pramipexole is usually started at lower doses and slowly increased to higher doses approximately every 7 days. Pramipexole cannot be stopped suddenly, you must gradually reduce the dose.
Standard dosing of pramipexole ranges from: 0.5 mg to 1.5 mg three times a day
Some common side effects with pramipexole include: low blood pressure, drowsiness, dizziness, and irregular jerky movements.
Some less common side effects with pramipexole include: worsening of restless leg syndrome, confusion, and tiredness.
While taking pramipexole remember it is important to tell your doctor or pharmacist if:
• You have signs of an allergic reaction such as rash, itching, swelling, or chest tightness
• You have strong urges that you cannot control
• You experience severe dizziness and passing out
• You have trouble controlling body movements
• You are suddenly falling asleep when feeling alert
• You see a whole tablet in your stool while taking pramipexole ER
• You start taking new medications, vitamins, or supplements
