Join us on the Hudson River as we cruise by and discuss NYC's historic landmarks from the water!
Join the National Maritime Historical Society on a cruise down the Hudson River and learn about NY Harbor's past, present and future. Pass by Little Island and the Central Railroad of New Jersey Terminal along with Pier 57, notable for its submerged concrete caissons and long steel girders resembling structures similar to those built as a part of the American military effort in World War II. Take note as we pass by the Batteries of NY Harbor including the Battery at Fort Clinton of 1808, a 25 acre park on the southern tip of Manhattan, Governor's Island Fort Jay of 1874, and the Battery Maritime Building built from 1906 - 1909. Be inspired as we talk with Project Director of Sasaki International, Susannah Drake, and learn about the effects of Super Storm Sandy on Maritime History, and the impact of climate change on historic and architectural sites. Hear from Rick Scarano of Scarano Boat Building, designer and boat builder of the Classic Harbor Line fleet, and learn about 1920s commuter yacht history.
