Going To The Sun Road is a picturesque mountain road that travels through Glacier National Park West-East or East-West, however you want to start. This is also the only road that traverses the park. It also crosses the Continental Divide through Logan Pass.
We knew very little of this National Park 6 months ago, but had a plan to visit in 2022 and through some research of our own, we found that each year this road opens to cyclists before vehicle traffic is allowed.
As the road is plowed, sections of the Sun Road gradually open for cyclists or hikers to enter the park and bike along what we now consider the most beautiful bike ride we have ever ridden.
It is all about timing and this year, due to heavy snow fall late in the season, the road was open for cyclists from Avalanche to The Loop. We really wanted to reach Logan Pass, but unfortunately not this trip.
To add in some extra mile, we started from Lake McDonald Lodge (vehicle traffic for a few miles).
If you enjoy national parks, enjoy cycling, or just want an unforgettable adventure, THIS IS IT!
***Hi, I'm Tyler and my wife Kari and I are traveling physical therapists. We started Roadtrippingpt as a way to share our adventures with family and friends as we traveled the county working various assignments. Traveling as a career was never the plan, but it found us! Having lived in 7 different states, we wanted to document and share the beauty that is the United States***
