WARNING GRAPHIC CONTENT: The remains of 227 children, aged between four and 14, have been found at a site in Huanchaco, Peru. Some of the skeletons (main and inset right) still had skin and hair and they were found facing the sea. Researchers have suggested that the children (inset right the graves) may have been killed in an attempt to appease the pre-Colombian Chimu culture's gods and to try and stop bad weather known as the El Nino phenomenon. This is a climate change pattern involving the unusual warming of water in the Pacific Ocean and would have disrupted fishing and weather. Castillo said there might still be more remains to be found as 'wherever you dig, there's another one.'
