The dark elements of humanity have always been with us, and have been viewed in a negative light.
The Russian novelist, Fyodor Dostoevsky was one of the first who addressed human darkness as a potential for good, however, not explicitly; but it was when the famous psychologist, Carl Jung, came on the scene and gave it a name, the shadow, that the dark side of humanity was then seen to lend more potential to the positive aspects of our personality.
