Big Meas: All of the years of writing graffiti has definitely impacted Big Meas' fascination with drawing letters. Lettering requires a certain skill that a lot of artists seem to never develop. He is not one of them. Big Meas takes his lettering seriously and gives nothing less that 100% on each and every design. His smooth strokes and steady hand have earned him a fantastic reputation among his clients and his teammates for being a class act at what he does. It also has set the foundation for his own personal style, being recognized and appreciated in the tattoo industry far and wide!
Fernie Andrade is truly immersed in tattoo life. Exposed at a young age from his brother and father, Andrade quickly realized that he had found his calling; to become a tattoo artist. Andrade began "backyard" tattooing in 1999, until a good friend sold him professional tattoo equipment; Fernie was on his way. Having not had any formal training, Andrade was hired as an artist without the backbone of apprenticing. Though he lacked the formal education and training that many artists go through before going pro, he dedicated himself to learning everything along the way through guidance, observation and getting tattooed himself. Andrade is a true self-taught tattoo artist and proud of it; his hard work sure as hell paid off, as he is now an award winning and highly respected professional in the industry. Over the years, Andrade has racked up over 100 awards for his speciality in black and grey/portrait realism. His bold contrast and creative use of lighting has lent itself to participating in some art shows, such as "Stations of the Cross" organized by Franco Vescovi. Fernie Andrade currently works out of Ink Slingers Studio in Alhambra, CA. Browsing through his portfolio, the realistic detailing in his portrait work is truly amazing. Don't miss your chance to get tattooed by Fernie Andrade.
Josh Hagan: Born and raised in Long Beach, Southern California, I got my first tattoo when I was 15 years old and was instantly fascinated with the art. At 17 years old, I was arrested and put in jail for protecting my mother from a couple of drunks. It was an unfortunate event in my life, but it gave me the time, patience, and motivation, to really concentrate on my art. As soon as I put the pencil to paper, it was an addiction I could not stop. I instantly had a hunger to be the best I could be. It didn't turn into tattooing until about 9 years later. I had some regular jobs, manual labor and such, 'till one day I realized it just wasn't the life I wanted to be living. I knew I could be more. The next day, I got into my car and went to every shop 'till I found an artist that I was comfortable learning from. I took an apprenticeship under Lenny Mental and Johnny Jinx at Sacred Art Tattoo in Tucson, AZ. I originally wanted to do black and grey, but it didn't take long to see my true passion was in color. It has been a long road, but I have learned for some of the most amazing artists. If I could give one piece of advice to an upcoming artist, it would be that the only thing you need to succeed is motivation. I don't believe in talent, I believe in hard work and dedication to true art.
James Strickland has been tattooing professionally for 7 years. He is currently working out of a private studio in Ventura, CA.
