The Northern Irish party, whose 10 MPs are propping up Mrs May's Government, are expected to desert the Prime Minister after her top QC Geoffrey Cox admitted the 11th hour deal struck in Strasbourg last night failed to reverse his legal advice. Mr Cox has said today the legal risk of Britain being locked into EU rules forever through the Irish backstop 'remains unchanged' and that new concessions only 'reduce' this risk. In his bombshell letter presented to the cabinet this morning Mr Cox said: 'The legal risk remains unchanged. The UK would have no internationally lawful means of exiting the Protocol's arrangements, save by agreement'. His overall conclusion immediately sparked a negative reaction from the DUP - seen as the key group the PM needed to win over - with sources in Belfast and London claiming 'they cannot support the deal'. The Brexiteer MPs that May needs to win over to win tonight's vote were similarly unimpressed, including Tory John Whittingdale who said it had inflicted 'terminal' damage on her deal.
