Qixi Festival is a Chinese Valentine's Day celebrating the annual meeting of Zhinü and Niulang in Chinese mythology.The festival is celebrated on the seventh day of the seventh lunisolar month on the Lunar calendar.

The tale of The Cowherd and the Weaver Girl has been celebrated in the Qixi Festival since the Han dynasty.The earliest-known reference to this famous myth dates back to over 2600 years ago, which was told in a poem from the Classic of Poetry.

每逢七夕節，姑娘們會沐手焚香，擺上時令瓜果、巧果巧具，朝天祭拜，乞求織女賦予她們聰慧巧手，稱為“乞巧”。乞巧遊戲玩法諸多，有喜蛛應巧，投針驗巧等玩法。

乞巧在中國古代非常盛行，在七夕節乞求心靈手巧是閨閣女兒心之所願。故樂此不疲，願年年有巧。宋朝孟元老在《東京夢華錄》中寫道：七月七夕“以小蜘蛛安合子內，次日看之，若網圓正謂之得巧”。
