Playing around in the studio with my synths the other day..... Decided to try and recreate the intro to a piece of music I remember from when I was younger. It's from the 1975 album by Vangelis called 'Heaven and Hell'. I think the specific part is called 'Movement 3' and it was famously used in a popular TV series at the time called 'Cosmos' presented by the late Carl Sagan.
It's a piece I listened to a lot and I always thought the intro was really beautiful. When mucking about on my Jp-8000 recently I realised you could get some great Yamaha CS-80 type sounds and that of course got me thinking about Vangelis ( a prolific user of the CS-80).
So I decided to work out the piano part and see if I could embellish it with my synths in the same way Vangelis did. I think the sounds are pretty close. The vocal expansion card in the JV-1080 really works well with the voices.
Equipment used
Logic Audio Express
Roland JP-8000
Roland JV-1080 (with Vocal expansion card)
Lexicon PCM-80
