STORYLINE:
The center-right GERB party of ex-premier Boyko Borissov is the likely winner of Bulgaria's parliamentary election after exit poll results showed it placing first on Sunday.
The exit poll conducted by the Gallup International pollster showed the GERB party with 24.6 %, apparently edging out the reformist party 'We Continue the Change' of former Prime Minister Kiril Petkov on18.9 %.
It could take days before the final official results are announced. If they confirm the exit poll, Borissov will be handed a mandate to form his fourth cabinet.
It looks, however, that it will be an uphill task for him to find allies to form a stable governing coalition in a fragmented parliament where most of the groups have already rejected any cooperation with the GERB party.
In their first comments, political analysts predicted weeks of talks to form a viable coalition but did not exclude the possibility of another election.
