In Episode 2 of Gone But Not Forgotten in association with HPCL we trace the origins of the Hindustan Ambassador, India’s National Car, starting with the Landmaster . Next we chart the lineage through Mark 1, 2 and 3 before going for a spin in a pristine Ambassador Mark 4. We then dwell on the DX, Nova and 1800 ISZ, before gunning the 1.8 litre engine on the Classic that had an all-new body but visually remained unchanged. A brief run through the Avigo and all the mod jobs ends with us driving the Veer pickup and wondering what might have been had the sub 4 meter Ambassador — yes it was built and was caught testing! — been launched. The Amby was discontinued in 2014 after 56 years in production.
