Step 1: Work on your wide slice serve
Jeff considers that the slice serve out wide, particularly on the deuce side as a righty and viceversa for a lefty, is one of the most effective to hit in tennis. This specific type of serve helps you to open up the court by pulling your opponent off, and gives you a clear target to hit the next shot. In fact, Roger Federer, Novak Djokovic, Dominic Thiem use this singles strategy very often on big points.
Step 2:
Jeff recommends playing the first ball to big and safe targets; thus, you avoid missing out wide, long, or even into the net. Moreover, he thinks that it is okay to hit the first ball short instead of always playing it deep. Additionally, he suggests using a step back footwork pattern
when the ball comes fast through the middle. To perform it, load on your outside leg and step back as you hit the ball.
Step 3
Jeff encourages you to move forward if you hit a great first stroke and your opponent is on the run. He highlights the importance of ball recognition and efficient footwork when coming to the net.
Step 4
Fourth, Jeff explains how to properly execute the backhand volley. He shows the technique and movement nuances that can help you to close points at the net like a pro.
