Last weekend, we visited the Pinnacles National Park for the very first time. The first trail we hiked was the one going to the Bear Gulch Cave, looping towards the reservoir and the rim trail. Such a fun and interesting 1.3-mile loop.
The Bear Gulch Cave is home to a colony of Townsend’s big-eared bats. During our hike, we were only able to access the lower cave section. In order to protect the bats and their habitat, the park closes the short upper section of the cave.
So to answer the most common question online, YES, you can hike the Bear Gulch Cave, at least the lower part section, as it is mostly open every day unless the water is high. Make sure to check updates before going, and bring a flashlight, you'll need it!
