With the help of modern technology, tourists will soon be able to see the marvels of ancient Rome in their former glory.
A new multi-media exhibit will illuminate the passages of Roman imperial palaces with frescoes.
STORYLINE:
Visitors can now imagine, through immersive technological reconstructions of Ancient Roman frescos, how the Palatine Hill looked like more than two thousand years ago.
Light and colour projections of former frescoes will light up passageways that tourists can see as they pass from one part of the Palatine Hill to another.
The organizers intend for visitors to have a completely different way of experiencing architecture.
This is the spirit behind "Secret places", a series of permanent installations that will be set up in the Ancient Roman Forum and on the Palatine Hill.
" First of all, this is not an exhibit but an initiative which means to experiment with the possibility of permanently creating (in the Ancient Forum) some multimedia immersive installations in the most significant and secret places of the Ancient Roman Forum and the Palatine, places that for a long time remained closed " explains Francesco Prosperetti, spokesman Ministry of Culture.
"We realized that people ended up crossing these places with their head down, without really understanding the power of these sites that reveal the history of this city".
Some of the places, such as the Neronian Criptoportico, remained closed for many years but they will now represent crucial landmarks on the tourist trail.
