Medicares Best Kept Secret 2: Guaranteed Issue For MedSup When You Move Out Of Your MA Plan Area
1. You got a Medicare Advantage Plan
⁃ You were misled and really had no clue what you were doing. And it’s been more than 12 months since you got it.
⁃ If it’s within 12 months, you still have a Guaranteed Issue right to buy a Med Sup.
⁃ Everything was working well, but now it’s not.
2. Now you’re health is not good and you are starting to get lots of co-pays or you need to see a specialist or access a specialty hospital and your plan won’t let you or it will cost you more money.
3. Because of your health, you won’t medically qualify for a Medicare Supplement
4. What can you do?
⁃ Hope and pray the insurance company terminates your Medicare Advantage plan.
⁃ Disburse of all your assets and go on Medicaid
⁃ MOVE! Simply moving or having a change of address outside of your plans service area gives you a Guaranteed Issue right to purchase a Medicare Supplement policy.
⁃ You must be careful in doing this
⁃ Typically, you must notify the MA plan that you are moving. You want to do this early in the month. They will send you a letter that your plan is ending because you have moved out of the plans service area.
⁃ Then you apply for a Medicare Supplement in in the new area or at the new address and provide them with your termination letter from the MA plan.
