Man what a day, definitely one of the saddest aviation experiences I've witnessed.
So today I decided instead of the usual Heathrow visit to try somewhere new and head down to Cotswold Airport, commonly known as Kemble, the UK's Airplane graveyard. On this occasion the last 2 BA 747's were leaving Heathrow for the very last time, the jumbos featured were G-CIVB - Wearing the retro Negus livery, and G-CIVY. Both aircraft departed from Runway 27R at Heathrow one after the other, as G-CIVB flew direct towards Kemble and G-CIVY went around to perform a fly past over Runway 27L at Heathrow before heading to St Athan. I'll link a video of the fly past below for you all to see
I did a kind of collaboration with this video with a fellow youtuber who was down at Heathrow. The idea was for him to use my footage of the landing on his video and me to use his footage of the take off on mine - My way of being in two places at once. He is relatively new to filming so apologies for some shaky footage, it was also cold and wet at Heathrow so I hope you understand - Regardless it was the thought and emotion that matters most
Speaking of emotion there was definitely a lot around. For me personally at Kemble it actually brought a tear to my eye watching and knowing this aircraft was not going to fly again. There were also many flight crew of whom had shared many memories on the 747s who came to watch her land for the last time. And everyone gave an emotional clap to congratulate the beautiful landing. Shortly after the aircraft was towing off the Runway, the Captain opened the hatch and waved the Union jack to say goodbye, a really emotional and bittersweet act. Definitely had myself and the ladies who worked for BA in tears
Overall a fabulous send off to a beautiful aircraft, for those who don't know the directors of Cotswold Airport are currently in talks to keep Negus as a preserved museum piece. Hopefully this all goes ahead so she doesn't end up as scrap parts.
Hopefully some form of tribute can also be done for Landor and BOAC which are both currently situated at Cardiff.
Feel free to share your BA 747 memories below, I'll look forward to reading them
Thanks for watching and have a good day
