This video is a short one describing how spark helps parents and how nurseries, pre-schools and childminders are promoting outstanding EYFS practice at the same time. Parent partnerships are vital.

How often have you seen the proud parent whose child has written their name for the first time, but the letters are formed incorrectly from the wrong side of the page? That child's brain cells will need to make new connections, to form each letter correctly, and start in order, from left to right across the page. The brain connections formed for the habit (of poor letter formation etc.) the child has developed will need to die. How hard is it for YOU to give up a bad habit?

I hope spark helps parents concentrate first on 'mark making' (nothing formalised) and all the skills needed to be successful the first time the child writes their name, because they want to, not because the parent wants them to. Aspiring parents can unintentionally pressure their children to achieve something before they have the skills to do things properly. However, they can be so grateful for the proper support and encouragement. It is essential to support parents in this way as 95% of the child's brain will be already grown before they begin school, and with parents on board in practical ways can only be of positive benefit to the child.

spark helps early years settings work with parents by supporting them to be stage-appropriate and help their child at home appropriately, building upon what the child can do. Also, to communicate with the Key Person and the early years provider effectively.
