The first satellite dish of the Square Kilometre Array-Mid Telescope, under construction in the Northern Cape, will be installed early next year. The dish is one of four making up the first stage of construction in the Karoo.
It was assembled at a test site in China, marking a major milestone in the telescope's construction. Comprising 66 separate panels, the structure stands more than six storeys high and weighs over 50 tonnes.
The delivery of the dish represents an important step for the telescope, since construction began in a year ago.
